Job Advert: SEMH Children's Support Worker

Position: SEMH Children's Support Worker. 
Contract: Full-time / Part-time (depending on candidate)
Location: Blackpool.
Start Date: 5th January 2026

About the Role

We are searching for a caring, adaptable, and motivated SEMH Children's Support Worker to become part of our warm and inclusive school community. This role involves supporting a pupil with Special Educational Needs on an individual basis, helping them to access learning, develop key skills, and grow in confidence so they can thrive both academically and personally.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored one-to-one support for a pupil, following their EHCP and individual learning requirements.

  • Assist the child in accessing classroom activities by simplifying tasks and offering consistent encouragement.

  • Nurture the pupil’s social, emotional, and behavioural growth through positive and supportive strategies.

  • Work closely with teaching staff, the SENCO, and external professionals to deliver effective support plans.

  • Encourage independence, self-confidence, and positive attitudes towards learning.

  • Maintain the child’s safety, comfort, and overall wellbeing throughout the school day.

 

We Are Looking For Someone Who:

 

  • Has experience in care, support work, or another people-centred role.

  • Shows patience, empathy, and confidence when supporting children with additional needs.

  • Communicates clearly and can build strong, trusting relationships.

  • Stays calm, adaptable, and able to use initiative in a busy school environment.

  • Is eager to learn and develop through training and ongoing guidance.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
