SEMH Teaching Assistant
Are you a resilient and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant looking for a rewarding opportunity within a specialist, therapeutic education setting? Teaching Personnel is working in partnership with an independent SEND provision supporting young people aged 11–18 with social, emotional and mental health needs, offering a flexible and highly personalised approach to learning.
Role: SEMH Teaching Assistant (Temp to Perm)
Location: Preston, Lancashire (independent SEND provision)
Contract: Temporary with strong potential to become permanent
Start Date: Immediate / As agreed
Hours: Full-time (term-time)
About the Role:
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will support learners who require emotional, behavioural and pastoral support to engage positively with education. You will play a key role in helping students regulate emotions, build confidence and access learning in a calm, structured and supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities:

Provide 1:1 and small-group support for students with SEMH needs

Support the implementation of behaviour and emotional regulation plans

Assist teachers in delivering personalised and engaging learning activities

Build positive, trusting relationships that promote engagement and stability

Support students during transitions and unstructured times

Help maintain a safe, consistent and nurturing learning environment
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
-
Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, SEND or challenging behaviour
-
A calm, patient and resilient approach to behaviour management
-
Strong communication and relationship-building skills
-
Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
-
Relevant experience in education, youth work, care or mental health support (desirable)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
