SEMH Teaching Assistant – Heysham
Start Date: 1st September 2025
Location: Heysham, Lancashire
Contract: Long-term, with the potential for a permanent position
Pay: £89–£95 per day (depending on experience)

Are you passionate about supporting children with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs? Do you have the patience, empathy, and resilience to make a real difference in a child’s school experience?

A welcoming mainstream primary school in Heysham is looking to appoint a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their team this September. The school provides a nurturing and structured environment for pupils aged 4–11 who require additional support with emotional regulation, behaviour, and wellbeing.

Your Role Will Include:

  • Supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups with tailored interventions
  • Assisting with emotional literacy, sensory regulation, and social skills development
  • Helping to maintain a calm, consistent classroom environment
  • Working closely with teachers and pastoral staff to support individual needs
  • Promoting positive behaviour and building trusting relationships with pupils

We’re Looking For Someone Who:

  • Holds a Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or has relevant experience)
  • Has experience working with children with SEMH needs in any setting
  • Brings a calm, nurturing, and consistent approach to behaviour support
  • Has strong communication and de-escalation skills
  • Understands trauma-informed practice and behaviour support strategies

This role is ideal for experienced TAs or Psychology graduates looking to make a meaningful impact in a supportive school setting.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
