SEMH Teaching Assistant

We are seeking a compassionate, resilient and dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive and inclusive school environment. This is a rewarding opportunity to work closely with pupils who require additional support to overcome barriers to learning, helping them develop confidence, emotional regulation and positive relationships.

Location: Burnley
Salary: £14.25 - £15.50 per hour
Contract: Full-Time 8:30am – 3:30pm
Start Date: Monday 2^nd November 2026

The Role

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will:

• Provide tailored support to pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
• Build positive, trusting relationships to encourage engagement and participation in learning.
• Support pupils in managing their emotions and behaviours using consistent strategies.
• Deliver interventions and targeted support both on a 1:1 basis and in small groups.
• Assist pupils in developing social skills, resilience and self-esteem.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral teams and external agencies.
• Promote a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment.
• Monitor pupil progress and report observations to teaching staff.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who:

• Has experience working with children or young people with SEMH, behavioural or additional needs.
• Demonstrates patience, empathy and a calm approach in challenging situations.
• Has strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills.
• Can adapt their approach to meet the individual needs of pupils.
• Is committed to supporting vulnerable children to achieve their full potential.
• Has excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Holds relevant qualifications or training in education, childcare or SEN support (desirable but not essential).
