Job description
We are seeking to appoint a motivated, skilled and enthusiastic Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our dedicated team. This is an exciting opportunity for a committed professional who is passionate about supporting children's learning and making a positive impact across the school.
The successful candidate will work closely with teachers and leaders to support teaching and learning across the primary age range, delivering interventions, covering classes when required and helping to ensure that every pupil achieves their full potential.
Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)
Location: Burnley
Salary: £15.25 - £16.50 per hour
Contract Type: Long-term
Hours: 8.30am – 3.30pm Monday – Friday
Start Date: Monday 2nd November 2026
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality learning activities to individuals, small groups and whole classes.
- Provide planned classroom cover in the absence of the class teacher.
- Support pupils across EYFS, KS1 and KS2 as required.
- Deliver targeted interventions to raise attainment and support pupil progress.
- Work collaboratively with teachers to plan, prepare and evaluate learning activities.
- Support pupils with a range of learning needs, including SEND and EAL.
- Promote positive behaviour, inclusion and high expectations.
- Monitor, assess and report on pupil progress where appropriate.
- Contribute to the wider life of the school and support school events and activities.

- Holds HLTA status or has relevant qualifications and experience.
- Has experience working within a primary school setting.
- Is confident leading learning and managing whole classes independently.
- Has a good understanding of the primary curriculum.
- Can effectively support pupils of varying abilities and needs.
- Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Is proactive, organised and adaptable.
- Can build positive relationships with pupils, staff and parents.
- Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
