SEMH Learning Mentor

Teaching Personnel are currently recruiting passionate and resilient SEMH Learning Mentors to support pupils across specialist and mainstream schools in Wigan and Bolton.

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about helping children and young people overcome barriers to learning, build confidence and achieve their potential.

The Role

As an SEMH Learning Mentor, you will provide targeted support to pupils who may experience Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them to engage positively with education and develop the skills they need to succeed.

Your responsibilities may include:

• Providing 1:1 and small-group mentoring support

• Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils

• Supporting pupils with emotional regulation and wellbeing

• Helping pupils manage barriers to learning

• Supporting positive behaviour and engagement

• Encouraging confidence, resilience and independence

• Working closely with teachers, pastoral teams and SEN staff

• Supporting pupils both inside and outside of the classroom

We’re Looking For

We’re keen to hear from people with experience in roles such as Learning Mentor, Teaching Assistant, Youth Worker, Support Worker, Behaviour Mentor, Residential Support Worker or similar.

You’ll ideally be:

• Patient, empathetic and resilient

• Confident managing challenging situations

• Able to build strong relationships with young people

• Calm and consistent in your approach

• Passionate about supporting pupils with SEMH needs

• A positive role model with excellent communication skills

Previous experience working with SEMH, challenging behaviour or vulnerable young people is highly desirable.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
