Teaching Personnel are currently seeking a confident, proactive Cover Supervisor to join a specialist SEMH secondary provision in Failsworth. This is an excellent full-time, long-term opportunity for someone who is comfortable leading a classroom, taking initiative, and working within a dynamic and rewarding environment.

This specialist provision supports pupils aged 11–16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The school offers a structured, nurturing environment, helping students re-engage with education while developing confidence, resilience, and positive behaviour.

Staff work closely together to maintain a consistent and supportive atmosphere, where strong relationships, clear boundaries, and teamwork are essential.

The Role

As a Cover Supervisor, you will lead lessons during teacher absences, ensuring pupils remain engaged and focused on their learning.

This role requires someone who is:

  • Confident and capable of leading from the front
  • Proactive and able to think on their feet
  • Comfortable managing behaviour and adapting to challenges

You will play a key role in maintaining continuity of learning while supporting pupils’ emotional and behavioural development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise whole classes in the absence of a teacher
  • Deliver pre-planned lessons and keep pupils on task
  • Manage behaviour using consistent and effective strategies
  • Respond to challenges with confidence and initiative
  • Build strong, professional relationships with pupils
  • Support students in managing emotions and engagement
  • Work collaboratively with teaching and support staff
  • Remain flexible and contribute across the school day

Essential Requirements

  • Experience working with young people (school-based or similar)
  • A confident presence and strong communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative
  • Effective behaviour management skills
  • Calm, resilient, and adaptable approach
  • Genuine interest in supporting pupils with SEMH needs

Desirable Skills

  • Previous Cover Supervisor experience
  • Experience within SEMH, PRU, or alternative provision settings
  • Team Teach training (or willingness to complete training)
  • Understanding of trauma-informed practice
