Secondary Supply Teachers & Cover Supervisors
Job description
Secondary Supply Teachers & Cover Supervisors | Brighton & Surrounding Areas
If you're looking for guaranteed work Monday to Friday, this probably isn't the advert for you. If you're looking for genuine flexibility, keep reading.
I'm building my pool of Secondary Supply Teachers and Cover Supervisors for schools across Brighton and the surrounding areas.
And I want to be clear about what I'm offering.
This is predominantly day-to-day supply.
Some weeks can be busy. Some can be quieter. Some bookings arrive several days in advance, while others land on my desk the same morning.
That's the nature of supply, and I'd rather be upfront about it from the beginning.
In return, you get something that's increasingly difficult to find in education: genuine control over your working week.
You Tell Me When You Want to Work
You don't have to offer five days.
You don't even have to offer three.
If you're reliably available every Monday, that's useful to me.
If you want Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday but never Friday, that's fine too.
I care much more about reliable availability than maximum availability.
The only thing I ask is that we communicate properly. If you've told me you're free and something changes, let me know. If your availability changes from week to week, that's fine too—just keep me updated.
And Yes, The Phone Can Ring Early
This is worth knowing before you register.
Schools can start contacting me from around 6:30am, sometimes even earlier, when staff call in sick.
If you've told me you're available that day, I may therefore be calling you from around 6:30am onwards with a same-day booking.
Not every job works like that. Plenty of cover is pre-booked.
But if you want to make the most of day-to-day supply, being responsive in those early mornings makes a huge difference.
I'm Recruiting Two Types of Educator
Supply Teachers
If you hold QTS or an appropriate equivalent, I'm looking for teachers across a range of secondary subjects for general and subject-specific cover.
Supply can be a great option if you're stepping away from permanent teaching, returning to the classroom, semi-retired or simply want more control over your timetable.
Cover Supervisors
You don't need QTS to be a Cover Supervisor.
You'll supervise work already prepared by the school, manage the classroom and keep pupils on task during teacher absence.
I'm interested in experienced Cover Supervisors, but also people from backgrounds such as:
- Sports coaching
- Youth work
- Tutoring
- Mentoring
- Graduate roles involving young people
You need to be comfortable taking responsibility for a secondary classroom and confident communicating with young people.
The Best Part of Building a Good Supply Reputation
Schools remember people.
If you go into a school, do a good job and get on well with the staff and pupils, there's every chance they'll ask for you again.
That's what I want to build.
Rather than constantly sending you somewhere new, I'd much rather get to the point where I know which schools like you, which ones you enjoy and where I can send you with confidence.
Practical Information
- Secondary schools across Brighton & surrounding areas
- Day-to-day and pre-booked supply
- Work throughout the 2026/27 academic year
- Competitive daily rates appropriate to the role
- Flexible availability
- CPD and training available
Having access to a car is helpful and will open up more opportunities, particularly for last-minute bookings outside central Brighton, but it isn't essential.
You'll need an Enhanced Child Workforce DBS registered on the Update Service. If you don't currently hold one, you'll need to apply through us and cover the associated cost; I'll support you through the process.
We'll also require a full employment and education history and references covering 24 months of employment in total where possible as part of our safeguarding checks.
Interested?
I'm looking for people I can actually build a working relationship with over the academic year.
You don't need to promise me five days a week. Just be clear about when you're available, communicate with me and be dependable on the days you give me.
If that sounds like the sort of supply relationship you're looking for, apply and let's have a chat.
All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQ’s on the Teaching Personnel website for details.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
Teaching Personnel is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We undertake safeguarding checks on all workers in accordance with DfE statutory guidance ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ this may also include an online search as part of our due diligence on shortlisted applicants.
We offer all our registered candidates FREE child protection and prevent duty training. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Full assistance provided.
