Secondary specialist SEMH LSA for January 2020

We are looking for confident, self-motivated individuals, who are good communicators, patient with a friendly approach and able to work independently with experience working with vulnerable young adults and children for an exciting new SEN provision within a Secondary School. The school, based in the Gosport have recently opened up a brand new specialist alternative provision for students who have social, emotional and mental health needs. The overarching aim of the unit is to provide excellent educational provision to all learners with specialist support and to support them in mainstream Education.

The role would be working with a range of pupils who have been identified as needing extra support. The school are looking for someone with SEMH experience who can help create a nurturing learning environment and liaise with heads of year, the SENCO and parents to support students back into the mainstream setting smoothly. The role required someone who is adaptable and good at building rapport and positive relationships quickly. As an inclusion learning support assistant you will work 1:1 and in small groups to support the educational outcomes of the students attending the provision.

A passion for supporting pupils to overcome obstacles and engage in school life is essential to work in this inclusive setting. The school places a heavy emphasis on including students in all activities to ensure a access to a broach and rich curriculum. Being creative and taking a proactive approach to adapt lessons for inclusion will ensure you make a positive impact.

The ideal candidate will be highly motivated to support their students and be passionate about their continual professional development. The school are looking for someone who:

  • Have a degree in Psychology or other Education related subject
  • Is able to use initiative and be proactive within the classroom
  • Will be engaging, have strong classroom presence and behaviour management skills
  • Can work 1:1 and with small groups in the inclusion provision on the main school site
  • Be able to differentiate resources for personalised learning to take place
  • Can collaborate with LSA's and Inclusion Teachers to ensure students are well supported
  • Can support and track the progress of students identified as SEN and/or with an EHCP
  • Has prior experience working with an SEN environment
  • Has knowledge on SEMH and can demonstrate the best ways of supporting such needs
