Salaried Teacher Training Programme – Secondary Schools
Manchester | £23,000–£27,000 salary | January 2027 start

If teaching is something you've been considering, but you'd like to get into a school and gain practical experience before committing to teacher training, this could be a great place to start.
We're looking for graduates who are keen to build a career in secondary education and want to learn from experienced teachers while earning a salary.
This is a 2-year salaried route into teaching, combining paid school experience with formal teacher training. By the end of the programme, you'll have gained valuable classroom experience and worked towards achieving PGCE and QTS.
Start Your Journey in a Manchester Secondary School
During your first year, you'll work as a Cover Supervisor in a secondary school in Manchester.
You'll be part of the school community from day one, gaining an understanding of how schools operate and developing the confidence to work with pupils in a classroom setting.
Your day-to-day role could include:

Leading lessons using plans and resources provided by teachers

Supervising classes and maintaining a positive learning environment

Supporting pupils with their work and development

Working closely with teaching and support staff

Learning from experienced teachers through classroom observation

Building positive relationships with pupils

Taking part in training and professional development

Developing your classroom management and communication skills
This first year is all about building your experience and getting you ready for the next stage of your teaching career.
Year 2 – Move Into Teacher Training
Once you've built up your school experience, you'll progress into formal teacher training in your second year.
You'll continue working within a school while working towards:

PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education)

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
You'll gradually take on more responsibility in the classroom, with support from experienced teachers and mentors throughout the process.
You'll have plenty of opportunities to develop your teaching practice, receive feedback and put what you're learning into practice.
