Graduated and wondering what to do next?

If teaching is something you’ve considered but you’re not quite ready to jump straight into a PGCE or teacher training, why not spend some time in a school first?

We’re recruiting graduates for school-based opportunities across Manchester and the surrounding areas, with positions starting in November.

This is your chance to get genuine experience working with pupils, learn from teachers and see first-hand whether a career in education is right for you.

Get paid to gain experience

You’ll work in a school on a full-time basis, earning £23,000–£27,000 per year while developing the skills and experience needed for your future career.

Depending on the school, you could be working as a Teaching Assistant, Cover Supervisor or classroom support, giving you plenty of opportunity to work directly with pupils and become part of school life.

You’ll be supported throughout your placement and will learn from experienced teachers and school staff.

What could you gain from the experience?

By the end of your placement, you could have developed a much clearer understanding of what it takes to be a teacher, as well as valuable experience to take into your future teacher training.

You’ll gain exposure to areas such as:

• Classroom and behaviour management
• Supporting different learning needs
• Building relationships with pupils
• Working alongside teachers
• Supporting lessons and classroom activities
• Understanding how schools operate
• Developing your communication and confidence
• Getting involved in the wider school community

You’ll also have the chance to work with pupils across different age groups and abilities, helping you understand the different challenges and rewards that come with working in education.

No teaching experience? No problem.

You don’t need to have worked in a school before.

We’re looking for graduates who are enthusiastic, dependable and keen to work with young people. Maybe you’ve coached a sports team, tutored someone, volunteered with children, worked in a youth setting or simply know that education is the career you want to explore.

If you’re willing to learn, we can help you develop the rest.

Where could this lead?

The programme is designed to give you a strong starting point for a future career in teaching.

Once you’ve gained experience and feel ready to take the next step, you can progress towards formal teacher training, including salaried training routes or a PGCE.

So rather than going straight from university into teacher training, you can spend time in a real school, understand the profession and build your experience first.
