Teaching Personnel are working with a residential school in North Yorkshire who are seeking a Residential Support Worker this term.

Situated in Harrogate, our client is a 38 and 52 week mixed-gender residential and day school for children and young people aged 8-19 with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder and other related conditions. The provision supports children and young people with a wide range of learning difficulties including those with behavioural, social, emotional, mental health and communication disorders. 

Access to the local community is an important part of the students' development and integration with employers and other community groups is positively promoted. Extensive use is made of local recreational facilities to facilitate engagement in various leisure activities.

Drawing upon a proven expertise in specialist education and 24-hour care, our client focuses on the development of personal, social, communication and independence skills. The residential accommodation is furbished to a high standard and provides a safe environment for children to live in. The care staff are all highly trained and experienced. The multi-disciplinary teams and high staff ratios ensure intensive individual support.

Each child has their own room which they decorate to their individual tastes and cater for their requirements. The children could display a variety of challenges and be verbally or physically aggressive. Therefore, we are looking for enthusiastic and caring people to help make a difference to these children regardless of the challenges you may be faced with.

This is a diverse position, and the successful candidate will act as a positive role model, helping to meet the diverse needs of pupils. You will work closely will colleagues and handover at the start and end of your allocated shifts. Your role will include supporting young people on outings such as trips to the cinema, shopping, or could include spending time within the home, providing education and enhancing life skills.

As a Residential Support Worker, you will be required to complete relevant paperwork, household chores and chaperone the children on appointments and other activities. There will be occasions where you may have to administrate medication and maintain the children’s personal care.

Essential criteria

  • Flexibility to work within a 24/7 setting (including evening and weekend shifts)
  • Excellent communication and listening skills
  • Able and willing to partake in relevant training (Team Teach/MAPA) and on occasion be involved in physical interventions
  • Ability to maintain accurate record
