Learning Support Assistant
Job description
We are seeking Learning Support Assistants to join a specialist SEN school, supporting children and young people with a range of complex needs. These may include physical disabilities, profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD), speech and language impairments, and sensory processing challenges.
Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will support pupils both in and out of the classroom to help them access learning, develop communication skills, and build independence. The role involves working closely with teachers, therapists and other support staff to provide a structured, supportive learning environment tailored to each student’s needs.
Students may use a variety of communication methods and specialist equipment, and you will receive guidance and training to help you support them effectively.
This role will also involve supporting students with personal care, ensuring it is carried out respectfully and in a way that promotes dignity and independence.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting pupils with complex learning and physical needs in the classroom
- Assisting with communication strategies and sensory-based learning activities
- Supporting students with mobility and the use of specialist equipment where required
- Providing personal care when needed, following agreed care plans
- Working collaboratively with teaching staff and therapy teams
We are looking for individuals who:
- Are patient, reliable and able to build positive relationships with students
- Are comfortable supporting pupils with personal care needs
- Can work as part of a team in a structured school environment
- Are willing to learn and develop their understanding of complex SEN needs
- Have experience working with children and young people with SEN
This is an opportunity to work in a supportive specialist setting where staff work closely together to ensure pupils receive the care, structure and encouragement they need to access education and develop key life skills.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
