1:1 Teaching Assistant – SEMH Secondary Provision | Immediate & September Start Available
We are seeking a dedicated and resilient 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a current Year 10 student within a specialist secondary school setting that caters for young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
The student has an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and has previously been excluded from mainstream education. As such, we are looking for a positive role model who can build strong relationships, provide consistent support, and help the student engage positively with learning and school life.

Providing dedicated 1:1 support throughout the school day
-
Supporting engagement in both academic and vocational learning
-
Building a trusting and professional relationship with the student
-
Encouraging positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and resilience
-
Working closely with teaching staff and pastoral teams to implement support strategies
-
Promoting independence and helping the student achieve their individual targets
What We're Looking For
-
Experience working with young people with SEMH needs, challenging behaviour, or additional needs is essential
-
A calm, patient, and consistent approach
-
Strong communication and relationship-building skills
-
Confidence in setting boundaries and maintaining professional expectations
-
The ability to remain resilient and adaptable in a dynamic environment
-
A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people
Desirable
-
A sporting background or interest in sports would be highly advantageous, as the student enjoys practical and vocational subjects where physical activity forms part of the curriculum.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to have a lasting impact on a young person's life while working within a supportive and rewarding specialist education setting.
If this is for an agency, I can also make it more direct and candidate-attracting with a stronger salary/benefits section.
