Pupil Premium Literacy Tutor

Are you a recent English Graduate?

Do you have experience working with young people who require additional literacy support?

Teaching Personnel are working alongside a mixed comprehensive Secondary school in North Manchester, aiding them in recruiting a dynamic graduate to join their English department working as a Pupil Premium Intervention Tutor, supporting students who require additional support within English lessons.

Due to a last minute staffing gap, our client school is looking for a full-time Literacy and Reading Intervention Tutor to start as soon as possible. Our partner school hopes to ensure their current English teaching team have the correct support they require within the classroom.

Roles and responsibilities

  • You will be supporting students on a small group basis usually consisting of no more than six students.
  • Each term, you may also be required to collaboratively plan and deliver targeted intervention days, taking disengaged learners off timetable to refocus and support further progress.
  • Supporting KS3 and KS4 disadvantaged pupils who require additional learning support to help them increase rates of progress and close the current attainment gap.
  • A small proportion of your timetable will be allocated to in class support in the English department.
  • Support the school's aims and objectives and play a major role in the development of the school's Catholic ethos.
  • Prepare and deliver the intervention of Literacy and Reading for identified disadvantaged pupils in receipt of pupil premium to improve rates of progress.
  • Working with students aged 11 - 16 of mixed abilities on a one to one basis and in small groups.

Application Requirements

  • Undergraduate Degree at least 2:2 or above in a related subject, preferably English, along with good literacy skills (A Level or above in English Language or Literature).
  • An enhanced DBS on the Update Service.

Our client school is based in North Manchester and is easily accessible from surrounding areas such as Oldham and Prestwich via the M60 and A663. For candidates who do not have their own transport, the client school is also accessible via several forms of public transportation from the surrounding areas of Greater Manchester.
