Psychology Graduates-
SEN Learning Support Assistant
Location- Cardiff
Salary- £14.30/hour
Contract type- Full/part time roles available
Looking to take your first step into a rewarding career?
If you’ve recently completed a degree in Psychology or Social Sciences and want to put your knowledge into meaningful practice, this could be the perfect role for you.
Working within an SEN school setting gives you the chance to apply everything you’ve learned, whether that’s understanding behaviour, emotional development, cognition, or communication directly into a real classroom environment.
This is an ideal opportunity to gain hands-on experience while supporting young learners who benefit from a more personalised approach to education.
What the role involves:
- Helping teachers create a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment.
- Encouraging positive behaviour and using calm, effective de-escalation techniques when needed.
- Working in smaller class groups (typically 5–8 pupils) and occasionally supporting on a 1:1 basis.
- Assisting learners with communication barriers and working collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams.
- Bringing enthusiasm, energy and a positive attitude to contribute to a happy and healthy school culture.
About the school:
The school supports learners aged 3–19 with a range of Additional Learning Needs (ALN), including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), PMLD, and physical disabilities.
Their ethos centres on helping every learner grow into a confident, capable individual, supporting them from early years right through to sixth form as they prepare for the next stage of life.
It’s a setting filled with care, structure and high aspirations, where staff work together to transform young people’s experiences of education.
What you’ll need:
- A bachelor’s degree in psychology or a Social Science discipline
- An Enhanced DBS (we can guide you through this).
- Registration with the EWC (we can help with this too).
- No teaching qualifications required.
- Previous SEN experience is beneficial but not essential. Enthusiasm, empathy and a willingness to learn are key.
- Ability to remain calm, patient and compassionate in high-pressure or emotional situations.
Ready to get started?
If you’re keen to build your experience in an SEN environment and want a role where you can make a genuine difference from day one, we’d love to hear from you.
Upload your CV to be considered for this position.
