Job Title: Year 1 Teaching Assistant
Location: Fulwood, Preston, Lancashire (North West England)
Job Type: Temporary – Full Time (Term Time Only)
Salary: £13.75 – £14 per hour Level 2 role.

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Year 1 Teaching Assistant to join a friendly and supportive mainstream primary school in Fulwood, Preston. This is a full-time temporary role, supporting the Year 1 class teacher in delivering high-quality learning experiences across the curriculum.

The successful candidate will play a key role in promoting a positive, engaging, and inclusive learning environment, helping pupils to develop both academically and socially.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support the Year 1 teacher in delivering engaging lessons across the curriculum.

• Provide individual and small-group support to reinforce key learning concepts.

• Assist in the planning and delivery of phonics sessions and guided reading groups – experience in these areas would be highly advantageous.

• Help maintain a positive and well-structured classroom environment.

• Supervise pupils to ensure safety and wellbeing throughout the school day.

• Support with classroom organisation, displays, and administrative tasks as needed.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

• Minimum of GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English.

• Previous experience working with children in an educational setting.

• Good understanding of child development and how children learn.

• Strong communication, teamwork, and organisational skills.

• Patience, empathy, and a nurturing approach to supporting young learners.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification.

• First Aid certification.

• Experience supporting children with early reading and phonics development.

Working Conditions:

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
