Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) – Primary SEN School

Location: Bolton
Start Date: ASAP

Teaching Personnel are looking to appoint an experienced and dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a specialist Primary SEN School in Bolton. The school supports pupils with a range of complex needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), learning disabilities, physical disabilities, sensory processing difficulties, global developmental delay, and speech and language communication difficulties. This is a rewarding full‑time position where you will play a vital role in helping pupils feel safe, supported, and ready to learn.


About the Role

As a HLTA, you will be an essential part of the teaching and support team. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading small‑group and whole‑class learning sessions, using teacher plans and adapting activities to suit individual needs.
  • Delivering targeted 1:1 and group interventions to support communication, emotional regulation, academic progress, and life skills.
  • Providing personal care, including toileting, feeding, and mobility support when required.
  • Supporting behaviour regulation, using consistent and positive strategies to help pupils manage emotional or sensory challenges.
  • Working closely with teachers, therapists, and support staff to create an inclusive and nurturing classroom environment.
  • Preparing and adapting learning materials, ensuring all pupils can access the curriculum.
  • Observing, recording, and reporting pupil progress to inform teaching, planning, and EHCP targets.
  • Contributing to personalised learning plans, ensuring each child receives tailored support that meets their specific needs.

Requirements

We are looking for someone who has:

  • HLTA status or demonstrable higher-level experience in an educational setting.
  • Previous experience working with children with complex SEN needs, ideally within a primary or specialist school.
  • Confidence and willingness to assist with personal care and physical support.
  • Strong behaviour‑support skills, with a calm and consistent approach.
  • The ability to lead learning independently and support teachers with planning and assessment.
  • An Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
  • A caring, resilient, and dedicated attitude, with a genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.
