SEN Teaching Assistant

Location: Manchester
Start Date: Immediate / ASAP
Contract: Full-Time, Term-Time Only

Are you passionate about supporting children with additional needs? Teaching Personnel are looking for committed and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistants to join a specialist secondary school in the Manchester area, supporting students with complex needs such as Autism, ADHD, sensory impairments, physical disabilities, communication difficulties, medical needs and global developmental delay. Every day, you’ll help young people feel safe, included and able to reach their full potential.


⭐ About the Role

You’ll work closely with students who require personalised support, patience and structure. This is a hands‑on role where you’ll make a genuine difference to their learning, independence and wellbeing.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 or small‑group support for students with a wide range of complex needs.
  • Assist with personal care, including toileting, feeding and mobility support, ensuring dignity and safety at all times.
  • Adapt learning materials and activities to match individual abilities and communication styles.
  • Support behaviour regulation, using calm, consistent strategies to help students feel secure and engaged.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs and therapists to follow learning plans and track progress.
  • Promote independence and life skills, helping students build confidence in both academic and social settings.

✔️ Requirements

  • Experience working with SEN (Autism, physical disabilities, communication needs, PMLD, SLD or complex medical needs).
  • Willingness and confidence to assist with personal care.
  • A calm, resilient and caring approach.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive, trust‑based relationships.
  • A Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
  • Ability to follow safeguarding, behaviour and care procedures.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
