SEN Teaching Assistant – Manchester (Long-Term Role)

Are you passionate about supporting children with additional needs and helping them flourish both academically and emotionally? Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming specialist primary setting in Manchester. The school supports pupils aged 2–11 with a wide range of complex needs, including:

  • Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
  • Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD)
  • Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD)
  • Speech, Language, and Communication Needs (SLCN)

Your Responsibilities

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Support pupils with complex learning needs on a 1:1 basis and in small groups.
  • Assist the class teacher with tailored learning activities and individual education plans (IEPs).
  • Help maintain a positive, nurturing, and safe learning environment.
  • Use strategies such as visual timetables, Makaton, sensory programmes, or PECS (training provided where needed).
  • Assist pupils with personal care, mobility, and emotional regulation as required.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and support staff to promote pupil independence and engagement.
  • Provide consistent encouragement, behaviour support, and pastoral care.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • Experience supporting children or young people with special educational needs (school, care, residential, or youth work experience all considered).
  • A patient, calm, and empathetic approach.
  • A willingness to support with personal care and sensory activities.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • A DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply for one).
  • A genuine passion for helping children with additional needs reach their full potential.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
