Primary SEN Teaching Assistant

Location: Trafford, Greater Manchester
Role Type: Full-time

Teaching Personnel are working closely with a complex primary SEN school in the Trafford area to recruit a compassionate and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant. This setting supports pupils with a wide range of complex needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), ADHD and sensory processing needs. Many pupils require tailored support throughout the school day, including structured routines, communication support and personal care.

This role is ideal for Teaching Assistants, support workers, or care workers who are passionate about making a meaningful difference in children’s lives.


The Role

As a Primary SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with complex SEN needs
  • Support learning activities adapted to individual EHCP targets
  • Assist with personal care routines, including toileting, feeding, and changing where required
  • Promote emotional regulation and positive behaviour using school strategies
  • Support pupils with communication needs, including the use of visual aids and alternative communication methods
  • Work closely with class teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and other support staff
  • Ensure pupils feel safe, supported, and valued throughout the school day

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEN, disabilities, or complex needs (school or care setting)
  • A caring, patient, and resilient approach
  • Confidence with personal care responsibilities
  • Ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff
  • A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
  • Relevant qualifications (desirable but not essential)
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
