SEN Teaching Assistant – Specialist SEN School (Full Time)

Teaching Personnel are working with a specialist SEN school to recruit committed and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistants to support children and young people with complex additional needs. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about inclusive education and want to make a meaningful difference in a highly supportive, specialist environment.

The provision supports pupils with a range of needs including autism spectrum conditions (ASC), severe and moderate learning difficulties, speech and language needs, sensory processing difficulties, SEMH needs, and behaviours that may challenge. Pupils benefit from small class sizes, structured routines, and a strong focus on emotional wellbeing and life skills.


The Role:

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils both inside and outside the classroom, working closely with teachers and therapists to ensure each child can access learning in a safe and nurturing environment. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small‑group support tailored to individual needs and EHCP outcomes.
  • Supporting pupils with communication, social interaction, emotional regulation and independence.
  • Assisting with differentiated learning activities and sensory‑based interventions.
  • Implementing autism‑aware, trauma‑informed and behaviour‑support strategies.
  • Supporting pupils during transitions, break times, personal care routines (where required) and enrichment activities.
  • Encouraging positive behaviour, engagement and confidence through consistent routines.
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, SEN staff and external professionals.
  • Recording observations and contributing to progress reviews and safeguarding procedures.

Requirements:

  • Full-time availability is essential (Monday–Friday).
  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEN, autism, SEMH, care or learning disabilities is highly desirable.
  • A patient, calm and resilient approach to supporting complex needs.
  • Strong communication skills and a genuine passion for SEN education.
  • Willingness to support with personal care if required.
  • An enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply through Teaching Personnel.
