Pastoral Teaching Assistant

  • 8:30am – 3:30pm

  • £13.75 per hour

We are currently recruiting on behalf of an Alternative Provision in Burnley for a full-time Pastoral Teaching Assistant to provide behavioural and pastoral support to pupils facing challenges in their education.

This is a long-term role, Monday to Friday, supporting students who require additional guidance to overcome barriers to learning. The successful candidate will work closely with teaching staff, senior leaders, parents, and external agencies to ensure consistent support is provided.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide pastoral support to students with social, emotional, and behavioural needs

  • Respond to incidents of challenging behaviour in line with school policies

  • Work with individuals and small groups to support learning and emotional development

  • Assist in planning, assessment, and delivery of interventions under the guidance of teaching or senior staff

  • Support pupils in developing independence, social skills, and positive behaviour

  • Supervise pupils during non-lesson times and contribute to a safe, supportive environment

  • Provide constructive feedback on pupil progress and behaviour to staff

  • Act as a positive role model, promoting inclusion and engagement

Although this is a whole-school support role, the primary focus will be on behaviour and pastoral care.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children or young people with additional needs

  • A calm, resilient, and empathetic approach

  • Strong behaviour management skills

  • Ability to build positive relationships and maintain professional boundaries

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
