Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) – Secondary Alternative Provision
Location: Burnley
Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm
Pay: £13.75 per hour

We are looking for a confident and adaptable Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a Secondary Alternative Provision (AP) setting for pupils aged 11–16. This role involves covering a variety of classes from Year 7 to Year 11, providing both academic and emotional support to students with complex needs.

About the Setting:
Alternative Provisions cater to students who are unable to attend mainstream education, often due to behavioural, social, emotional, or mental health (SEMH) challenges. These settings offer a supportive environment focused on helping pupils re-engage with learning, build confidence, and make progress at their own pace.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Delivering and supporting lessons across different subjects and year groups

  • Stepping in for teacher absence with appropriate planning and support

  • Supporting students with SEMH and behavioural needs in the classroom

  • Encouraging positive engagement, emotional regulation, and independent learning

  • Working collaboratively with teaching staff and support teams

What We’re Looking For:

  • HLTA qualification or relevant experience at HLTA level

  • Strong classroom management and adaptability

  • Confidence in leading lessons and supporting varied learner needs

  • Experience working with pupils with behavioural or emotional challenges is desirable

  • A calm, patient, and professional approach

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
