Background Information:
One of Teaching Personnel's client schools are currently looking for a Pastoral Support Manager to join their team ASAP. Job Description:
The role of the PSM is to provide an additional and complementary service to the school by helping students achieve their potential by overcoming barriers to learning both inside and outside of the school. The candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day management of student issues which affect learning. This will involve dealing with social, emotional, behavioural and learning issues.
Main Responsibilities:
- Support the students in their transition from the Primary Phase to the Secondary Phase
- Assist in the assessment of students who require additional support in overcoming the barriers to learning
- Monitor students' attendance, meeting with parents of students whose attendance is poor and liaise with the Education Welfare Officer and AEN Team as appropriate
- Supporting students with their social and emotional development, providing social skills input as appropriate
- Develop action plans and 1:1 support programmes for individual students to support them in accessing the curriculum
- Monitor student welfare
- Monitor and support student behaviour, working within the framework set out in the Academy Behaviour Plan
- Liaise with departments regarding individual students' work, academic progress and behaviour
- Liaise with parents regarding issues of behaviour
- Using the Academy MIS system, keeping detailed evidence of actions and interventions for students
Person Specification:
- Must have literacy and numeracy qualifications at least to Level 2 standard
- Must have excellent communication / team working skills
- Must be well organised in terms of record keeping and monitoring systems
- Must be flexible and adaptable and able to work in a variety of settings and situations
- Must have an empathetic approach and understanding of the difficulties experienced by vulnerable students (and parents/carers) in a mainstream school
- Must be competent at supporting students' behaviour and motivating students

All applicants will require the appropriate qualification and training for this role. For teacher roles, we require a formally recognised teaching qualification. For Support staff our minimum requirement is GCSE English & Maths (A-C) or equivalent.
