Pastoral Support Assistant

Have you got previous experience working to support vulnerable young people? Are you looking to progress your career into secondary education?

Our partner school in North Derbyshire is looking to expand its support staff team by adding a full time Pastoral Support Assistant to support students experiencing social and emotional difficulties. The role is full time and commences in September 2021. This opportunity is ideal for candidates local to the High Peak District as well as nearby Stockport and Cheshire East.

The new Pastoral Support Assistant will join a dedicated team of support staff including 3 SEN coordinators who support students in class and small group/ 1-1 meetings to help raise attainment, create a positive learning environment, provide support and promote positive behaviour in class and beyond. PSA’s are key to encouraging students to make positive choices about behaviour, attendance and social interactions, and will need to organise and provide structured intervention and support sessions to enable this.

PSA’s also play an important role in school relationships with parents and carers of vulnerable students, as they provide key academic and behavioural progress updates and keep guardians informed and in-the-know about any concerns, as well as any exercises or provisions needed at home.

Some highlights and responsibilities of this role include:

  • Providing pastoral support to students displaying challenging behaviour and SEMH students in the classroom
  • Liaising with SENCos and other senior leadership staff to organise structured academic and pastoral intervention sessions
  • Working to form positive and professional working relationships with vulnerable students whilst always being a professional role model
  • Developing good relationships and understanding with students parents and carers and keeping them updated on progress and concerns
  • Full-time position set to last the academic year 2021/22
  • Supportive Derbyshire based secondary school with leadership team dedicated to providing a supportive and inclusive ethos
  • Weekly pay of up to GBP350

Candidates should have experience working with or supporting secondary school students in other capacities such as tutoring, youth work, support work, sports coaching, mentoring etc. Secondary school experience is preferable, as well as experience working with SEN students. Candidates will need to provide suitable employment references and will need to apply for a Child Workforce DBS certificate.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
