Pastoral Care Worker

Teaching Personnel in partnership with a specialist provision in Colne are looking to hire a pastoral support worker to provide further support on both a 1:1 and small group basis. This role is due to start in May and would be required until the end of the academic year. The successful individual would be working with the pupils to manage their behaviour through providing them with coping mechanisms and activities to promote a calm and respectful environment for them to feel safe and nurtured whilst in school.

The role

As a pastoral care worker, you will be supporting students who require additional support for their overall development including academically, socially, and emotionally. These students are vulnerable so require a nurturing, safe environment for them to be able to become confident and further their independence. As a pastoral care worker, you may be required to be in close contact with pupils’ family members and other outside agencies to provide pupils with a full support system around them. You will need to differentiate your planning, teaching and activities to meet the needs of each pupil you are supporting as they will all have different needs and coping mechanisms. Within this role, the support may not be restricted to solely supporting the pupil in school, you may be expected to support family members during this time i.e. providing them with strategies that could possibly be implemented outside of school to ensure that the routine and strategies are the consistent.

  • £12.90 p/hour.
  • May 2024.
  • Temporary basis for the full academic year.
  • Experience working in a specialist provision is required.
  • Qualifications in psychology, counselling or similar is desirable.

The provision

This specialist provision caters for students aged 11-16 years who have severe additional needs that need to be supported throughout their time with them by specialist members of staff who have had experience working in a specialist provision prior to taking on their role. The successful individual would be working with the pupils to manage their behaviour through providing them with coping mechanisms and activities to promote a calm and respectful environment for them to feel safe and nurtured whilst in school.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
