Pastoral support worker

Teaching Personnel in partnership with a specialist provision in Nelson are looking to hire a pastoral support worker to provide further support on both a 1:1 and small group basis. This role is due to start ASAP and would be required on a temporary to permanent basis. The successful individual would be working with the pupils to manage their behaviour and offer emotional support through providing them with coping mechanisms and activities to promote a calm and respectful environment for them to feel safe and nurtured whilst in school.

The role

As a pastoral support worker, you will be supporting students who require additional support for their overall development including academically, socially, and emotionally. These students are vulnerable so require a nurturing, safe environment for them to be able to become confident and further their independence. As a pastoral care worker, you may be required to be in close contact with pupils’ family members and other outside agencies to provide pupils with a full support system around them. You will need to differentiate your planning, teaching and activities to meet the needs of each pupil you are supporting as they will all have different needs and coping mechanisms. Within this role, the support may not be restricted to solely supporting the pupil in school, you may be expected to support family members during this time i.e. providing them with strategies that could possibly be implemented outside of school to ensure that the routine and strategies are the consistent.

  • Experience working in a specialist provision is required
  • Qualifications in psychology, counselling or similar is desirable

The provision
This secondary provision provides an education for pupils ages 11-19 with general earning difficulties including Autism and SEMH. The headteacher prides themselves in aiming to provide the best education, skills and life choices to become positive members of society. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
