Mental Health Teaching Assistant
Job description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Mental Health Teaching Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for supporting students' mental health and creating a nurturing learning environment. As a Mental Health Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with students, teachers, and other support staff to provide assistance and guidance to students experiencing mental health challenges.
Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one or small group support sessions for students, focusing on coping strategies, emotional regulation, and self-care techniques.
- Assist in the development and implementation of education plans for students with mental health concerns.
- Monitor students' progress and communicate effectively with teachers and parents/guardians regarding any concerns or developments.
- Participate in staff training sessions related to mental health awareness, trauma-informed practices, and crisis intervention techniques.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all relevant privacy laws and regulations.
Qualifications:
- Experience working with children or adolescents in an educational or mental health setting. We will also consider those with experience supporting adults with similar needs.
- Strong understanding of mental health issues affecting students, including anxiety, depression, ADHD, and trauma.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, parents/guardians, and colleagues.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle crisis situations effectively.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying informed about best practices in mental health support for students.
A Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Counselling, Education, or a related field will be beneficial but is not essential.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
