Job description

Maths or Science Teacher - SEMH Independent School (Stoke)

Role: Maths Teacher or Science Teacher (Specialist)
Location: Stoke-on-Trent (Independent SEMH School)
Salary: Daily rate based on experience (dependent on experience)
Contract: Full-time, Long-term (with potential to become permanent)
Start: ASAP / Negotiable

Inspire, engage, and make a lasting impact in a specialist SEMH setting. An independent SEMH school in Stoke-on-Trent is seeking a qualified Maths or Science Teacher to join their team on a long-term basis, with the potential for a permanent appointment. This is a fantastic opportunity for a subject specialist who wants to work in a smaller, nurturing environment where strong relationships and consistent support are central to student success. The school supports pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs, many of whom require a structured, therapeutic and highly relational approach to learning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver engaging Maths or Science lessons tailored to individual learning needs
  • Differentiate effectively to support pupils working at varying academic levels
  • Build positive, consistent relationships with pupils
  • Work collaboratively with pastoral and support staff
  • Contribute to a calm, structured, and nurturing learning environment

What We’re Looking For:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Strong subject knowledge in Maths or Science
  • Experience in SEMH, alternative provision, or specialist settings is desirable but not essential
  • Mainstream teachers seeking a new challenge are strongly encouraged to apply
  • Resilient, adaptable, and relationship-driven practitioners
  • High expectations alongside a nurturing approach

This role would suit a confident teacher looking to move into a specialist setting, or an experienced SEMH practitioner seeking a long-term opportunity with progression potential. Smaller class sizes, high staff-to-student ratios, and strong leadership support make this an excellent environment for teachers wanting to focus on impact over paperwork.
