Learning Support Assistants – September 2026 Start
Location: Andover
Hours: Monday to Friday, Term Time Only
Pay: £14.25 per hour
We are recruiting Learning Support Assistants to join two specialist schools in Andover this September. These provisions support pupils with a range of additional needs, including SEN (autism, complex learning and communication needs) and SEMH (social, emotional and mental health needs).
Both schools provide structured, supportive environments where staff work collaboratively to help pupils develop academically, socially and emotionally.
The Role
As a Learning Support Assistant, you will play an important role in supporting pupils’ day-to-day learning and wellbeing. This is a varied position requiring patience, adaptability and a proactive approach.
Key responsibilities include:

Supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups, in line with individual learning plans

Assisting teachers in delivering and adapting lessons to meet a range of needs

Encouraging engagement in learning and supporting pupils to stay on task

Promoting the development of communication, social and life skills
-
Supporting pupils with emotional regulation and implementing positive behaviour strategies
-
Assisting with de-escalation where required, following agreed approaches
-
Helping to create a safe, consistent and inclusive classroom environment

Working closely with teaching staff, SENCOs and pastoral teams to provide consistent support
In the SEN setting, there is a strong focus on structure, routine and communication support.
In the SEMH setting, the role involves building trust, maintaining clear boundaries and acting as a consistent adult role model.

Previous experience in SEN or SEMH is beneficial but not essential. Full support, guidance and training will be provided.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
