SEMH Learning Support Assistant

Full time 

Portsmouth 

Have you recently graduated with a degree in Psychology or similar and are keen to put your skills and knowledge to good use? An incredibly successful secondary academy in Portsmouth have a great opportunity for a confident and empathetic individual to join their support team supporting students who have social and emotional difficulties. Students who have social and emotional difficulties show inappropriate responses and feelings to situations finding it hard to manage their behaviour. It is important that applicants have knowledge of the key causes of SEMH such as attachment, Trauma, Family dynamics and social exclusions and can demonstrate this at interview.

The appointed candidate will join the Academy, receiving fantastic training and development opportunities through a well thought out CPD programme.

The role of a Learning Support Assistant will involve working within a well organised alternative provision within the school supporting students from year 7-11. You will be required to work with students on a 1:1 and small group basis providing encouragement and support, differentiating tasks effectively to ensure they understand each topic and to enhance their confidence in their learning. 

This role is most suitable for a Psychology Graduate who is looking for a career in Education and wanting to gain experience before commencing Teacher Training. Each year, the school supports a number of staff with their transition onto their teacher training course in a variety of subject areas and can provide you with advice and guidance throughout. Extending your experience working with young adults, you will grow in knowledge of not only the curriculum but how the school operates whilst developing yourself professionally.

The school are looking to appoint for a start date of Monday 4th October on a full time basis pending successful interview and vetting checks. Candidates will be shortlisted on application and the advert will remian live until the most suitable candidate is appointed.
