Learning Support Assistant

A secondary SEN School in Brighton is looking to recruit a Learning Support Assistant on a temporary basis for students in need of academic and behaviour support.

The School

Based in Brighton, the school caters for students aged 11-16 who require specialised support in education due to social emotional and mental health needs.
The school provides work placement opportunities, access to apprenticeships and pathways into the world of work by providing the life skills and functional skills necessary for independence, as well as tuition for students whose needs pose a barrier to their school attendance.

The Role

As Learning Support Assistant you have the opportunity to provide professional academic and emotional support which can really make a difference to a students future. Your responsibilities will include;

• Classroom support - support teacher with classroom prep and organisation, help to implement the classwork and give assistance to students by breaking down their workloads and understanding their learning styles
• Emotional support - Students with Mental Health needs may be prone to emotional breakdown; patience, care and understanding is necessary to support them through this time
• Behaviour support - De-escalation will be an important part of your role

To be considered for the role of Learning Support Assistant you need;

• To be encouraging and enthusiastic about student education/ development
• Resilient and Patient
• Experience in Education (Learning Support Assistant/ Teaching Assistant/ Tutor/ Intervention) 
• Experience in de-escalation (Team-Teach ideal)

Please be aware that all applicants will be subject to background checks and will need a current DBS certificate (update service registered).

Working hours are Monday to Friday, 8.30am-3.30pm approximately, but you may be offered additional duties and responsibilities outside of these hours.

The school require on and off support throughout the year depending on student intake and staffing needs, so there is always opportunity for contract extension and permanent roles for staff who are a great asset to the school.
