• Do you have a keen interest within the pastoral side of school life, and are looking to actively help a student’s attainment?

A school in Northampton is looking for a Learning Support Assistant to join the support staff team. As a learning support assistant, the role will mainly focus on working with children on an individual basis. It is important to note that this position is not a teaching assistant role. As a learning support assistant, emphasis will be placed on specific intervention strategies for a broad range of children. Whilst not essential, prior experience working in a secondary school is desirable. Additionally, we welcome applicants who have worked with children on an individual basis in a different environment. This could be within a youth/community setting, or within a tutoring/mentoring capacity as well as those who may have worked within an individual sports coaching capacity. The position will often involve engaging with parents, teachers and the SENCO department.

As an LSA, work will be required to be carried out with the SEN department, in effectively catering for the individual needs of those with SEN. Additionally, there may also be opportunity for the candidate to work alongside the school’s ‘Gifted and Talented’ pupils, helping in the setting of work to provide more of a challenge to high attaining students.

Key aspects of the role will include:
• Dealing with a broad range of pastoral issues, engaging with pupils across a wide range of abilities and backgrounds.
• Offering extended individual support, both within the classroom setting as well as across the school site.
• Implementing interventions in order to best benefit a student, working in close partnerships with other teaching staff to try and achieve both long and short term goals for a given student.
• Aiding teachers with regards to issues such as timetabling, attendance, assessments and examinations.
• Pay – competitive rate.

The role advertised will begin after the Easter break, and run until the end of the academic year. The school is located close to Northampton town centre, and has several motorway links within close proximity. Additionally, there are numerous public transport links allowing ease of accessibility in getting to the school.
