Learning Support Assistant
Do you have experience as a classroom assistant and aspirations to support vulnerable young people?
This Tameside based secondary school is looking to appoint a Learning Support Assistant on a full-time basis from after Easter for 1 term initially. This role does however come with the opportunity to become permanent in the new academic year.
The successful applicant will work to a timetable of supporting regular classroom teachers during lessons by providing individual help to students most vulnerable to falling behind, possibly due to Special Educational Needs or Social and Emotional Mental Health requirements. LSA’s will provide support by explaining questions and tasks in a more understandable way and provide help wherever they can. LSA’s will also be responsible for providing small group and 1-on-1 intervention and pastoral support to vulnerable students with the goal of improving inclusion and raising self-esteem. The role may also involve delivering programmes of work to specific students to be completed outside the classroom with the goal to raise attainment and ensure vulnerable students do not fall behind their peers.
To be eligible to apply for this position candidates should have:
- Experience supporting vulnerable students in the classroom with a range of social and learning difficulties (SEN, SEMH)
- Experience providing support to students with English as an Additional Language (EAL) requirements
- Experience as a classroom assistant in another capacity
- Strong desire to work with and support vulnerable students
The successful candidate would be joining a thriving secondary school in outer Tameside with a community focused ethos that wants to ensure the best possible level of education for every child. Classroom assistants in all capacities are extremely important to the function of the school and ensuring that vulnerable students get all the support necessary. The school is ideally located for a local candidate or one with access to a car. The nearest train station is a 0.8 mile walk from the school for any candidates looking to use public transport.
