TP Tutors, part of Teaching Personnel, is looking for experienced 1:1 Secondary Tutors to provide personalised tuition to pupils across Northampton and surrounding areas.

This is an excellent opportunity for experienced teachers and tutors to support secondary-age pupils who may need additional academic support, helping them build confidence, re-engage with education and make meaningful progress.

The Role

You will deliver personalised 1:1 tuition based on each pupil’s individual needs, ability and learning goals.

Tuition may include:

• GCSE subjects
• English
• Maths
• Science
• Other secondary curriculum subjects, depending on your expertise
• GCSE exam preparation and revision
• Support for pupils with additional learning needs

Sessions may take place in pupils’ homes, schools or suitable community settings, primarily during school hours, Monday to Friday.

Working Pattern

• Flexible part-time and full-time opportunities.
• Mainly daytime tuition during school hours.
• Long-term and ongoing assignments available.
• Travel between tuition locations may be required.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging and personalised 1:1 secondary tuition.
• Plan lessons based on pupils’ ability, curriculum requirements and learning objectives.
• Adapt teaching strategies and resources to meet individual needs.
• Support pupils with GCSE preparation and academic progress.
• Monitor progress and complete clear session reports.
• Build positive and professional relationships with pupils, families and schools.
• Encourage confidence, independence and positive attitudes towards learning.
• Create a safe, supportive and inclusive learning environment.
• Support pupils in achieving their individual learning targets.

Essential Requirements

• Minimum 2 years’ UK teaching or tutoring experience.
• Experience working with Secondary-age pupils.
• Strong knowledge of the UK Secondary National Curriculum.
• Strong subject knowledge in your specialist teaching areas.
• Excellent communication and behaviour-management skills.
• Ability to adapt teaching approaches to individual learning needs.
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle, or reliable travel arrangements.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
• Right to work in the UK.

Desirable Experience

• QTS, PGCE or another recognised teaching qualification.
• GCSE teaching and exam preparation experience.
• Experience delivering personalised or 1:1 tuition.
• Experience supporting pupils with SEND or additional learning needs.
• Experience working in schools, alternative provision or pupils’ homes.
• Knowledge of EHCPs and individual learning plans.

Location

The role is primarily based across Northampton and surrounding areas, with tuition locations dependent on individual pupil requirements. You must be willing and able to travel to different tuition settings.
