Job description

Learning Support Assistant – Make a Real Difference
Location: Salisbury

Some days will be tough. Some days will be unpredictable. Some days you’ll need patience you didn’t know you had.

This role isn’t about ticking boxes or following the usual script. It’s about connecting with young people who have experienced trauma, who may struggle to trust adults, who often speak through behaviour instead of words.

We’re looking for a Learning Support Assistant who can stay calm when things get intense, set clear boundaries without shutting down, and help pupils feel safe enough to learn.

What You’ll Do

  • Support pupils with social, emotional and behavioural needs in class and in small groups
  • Respond calmly and consistently to challenging behaviour
  • Use trauma-informed approaches to build trust and resilience
  • Help pupils develop routines, social skills, and self-regulation
  • Work closely with teachers, therapists, and families to support each child

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience with children or young people who have SEMH or behavioural needs
  • Understanding of trauma, attachment, and emotional regulation
  • Confidence in de-escalation and behaviour management
  • Calm, consistent, reflective, and patient
  • A belief that every child can be supported to grow and succeed

You won’t always get it right. You will have to adapt, stay steady, and sometimes start again tomorrow.

But when you see a pupil manage a moment they never thought possible - or trust an adult for the first time -it makes everything worth it.

If that’s the kind of work you want to be part of, we’d like to hear from you.
