Job description

Do you believe that behaviour is communication?

Can you stay calm, curious and compassionate when things feel challenging?

We are looking for dedicated Learning Support Assistants to join a specialist education setting in Salisbury, supporting children and young people with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs and complex behaviours.

This is a role for someone who understands that progress isn’t just academic — it’s emotional, relational and personal.

The Role

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will:

  • Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils who may have experienced trauma, anxiety or disrupted education
  • Support pupils to regulate emotions and behaviour, using de-escalation and positive behaviour strategies
  • Work closely with teachers, therapists and pastoral staff to create a safe, structured and nurturing environment
  • Provide consistent 1:1 or small-group support, helping pupils re-engage with learning
  • Celebrate small wins — from improved attendance to moments of self-control and confidence

We’re Looking For Someone Who:

  • Has experience (formal or informal) working with SEMH, behaviour, autism or additional needs
  • Is patient, resilient and emotionally intelligent
  • Can remain calm under pressure and reflect rather than react
  • Understands that challenging behaviour often has an unmet need behind it
  • Wants to make a genuine difference in young people’s lives

What We Offer:

  • A supportive, close-knit staff team who truly value learning support
  • Ongoing training in behaviour, SEMH and trauma-informed practice
  • A role where no two days are the same — and where your impact is real
