Job description

Learning Support Assistant – Alternative Provision (Liverpool)

Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of young people? Do you have the skills and dedication to support secondary students with special educational needs in a positive and nurturing environment?

We are looking for a compassionate and committed Learning Support Assistant to join an alternative provision school in Liverpool. In this role, you will work closely with students, providing tailored classroom support to help them overcome challenges and reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support students with special educational needs in small group settings.
  • Assist with classroom activities, ensuring every student feels engaged and included.
  • Build strong, trust-based relationships that promote social and emotional well-being.
  • Help manage and de-escalate behavioural issues using positive reinforcement strategies.
  • Collaborate with teachers and staff to implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Provide one-to-one support where needed, helping students develop confidence and skills.

Essential Qualities

  • Previous experience supporting secondary students with special educational needs.
  • Ability to build positive, trusting relationships with young people.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Patience, resilience, and a proactive attitude.
  • Calm and effective approach to behaviour management.
  • Reliable, hardworking, and dedicated to student success.

The ideal candidate will be someone who can communicate effectively, inspire confidence, and break down barriers to learning. If you have a genuine passion for supporting students and helping them thrive, we’d love to hear from you.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
