Graduate Teaching Assistant

Location: South Shields
Start Date: July 2026
Contract: Full-Time
Pay: £90–£105 per day (depending on experience)

At Teaching Personnel, we are working with a supportive and inclusive school in South Shields to recruit a passionate Graduate Teaching Assistant to join their team.

This is an excellent opportunity for graduates considering a future in teaching, educational psychology, counselling, or youth work. You’ll gain first-hand experience in a classroom environment while supporting pupils both academically and personally.

The Role

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small group support to pupils
  • Assisting teachers in delivering engaging and effective lessons
  • Helping pupils build confidence, resilience, and independence
  • Supporting positive behaviour and classroom engagement
  • Encouraging a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment
  • Building strong relationships with pupils, staff, and parents where appropriate
  • Gaining valuable practical experience within a school setting

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for graduates who are:

  • Educated to degree level (all subject backgrounds considered)
  • Passionate about working with children and young people
  • Positive, adaptable, and eager to learn
  • Confident communicators with strong interpersonal skills
  • Committed to supporting pupils’ wellbeing and development
  • Able to work collaboratively as part of a school team
  • Experienced working with young people (desirable but not essential)
  • In possession of an enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willing to apply for one

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
