Job description

Graduates – Start Your Education Career (September 2026)

Cover Supervisor/Teaching Assistant roles

£92.63 to £100 per day

Perfect for graduates exploring teaching

Just graduated and considering a career in education? Not sure if you want to commit to a PGCE yet? I'm recruiting graduates of any subject or discipline to work as Cover Supervisors and Teaching Assistants across Gateshead and Newcastle from September 2026.

This is the perfect way to get paid classroom experience before making long-term decisions. You'll work in secondary schools, support students, gain confidence managing classrooms, and figure out if teaching is genuinely right for you – all while earning competitive daily rates.

What you'll be doing:

As a Cover Supervisor, you'll deliver pre-prepared lessons when teachers are absent, manage classroom behaviour, and keep students on task.

As a Teaching Assistant, you'll support students in lessons, work 1:1 or with small groups, and help teachers deliver effective learning.

Both roles give you genuine insight into education before you commit to teacher training.

You'll need:

  • A degree in any subject
  • Confidence working with young people
  • Good communication skills
  • Patience and adaptability
  • Genuine interest in education

Why this works:

  • £92.63 to £100 per day
  • Flexible working options (full-time or part-time)
  • Weekly pay via PAYE
  • Valuable classroom experience that strengthens PGCE applications
  • Dedicated support from me as your consultant
  • Real insight into whether teaching is the right career path for you

I work with plenty of graduates who've used these roles as a stepping stone. Some loved it and went straight into PGCEs with genuine experience already under their belt. Others realised teaching wasn't for them and moved into other careers – which is absolutely fine and exactly what this experience is for.

If you're a recent graduate wanting to explore education, send me your CV or call 0191 223 5071. Let's have a chat about what you're looking for.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQ’s on the Teaching Personnel website for details.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
Teaching Personnel is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We undertake safeguarding checks on all workers in accordance with DfE statutory guidance ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ this may also include an online search as part of our due diligence on shortlisted applicants.
We offer all our registered candidates FREE child protection and prevent duty training. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Full assistance provided.
