Location: Sturminster Newton, Dorset
Position: Teaching Assistant
Hours: Full-Time
Contract: Long-Term / Ongoing
Start Date: Immediate

Make a Difference in the Classroom

Are you someone who enjoys helping young people learn, grow and become more confident?

Teaching Personnel are working with a school in Sturminster Newton who are looking to appoint a motivated Full-Time Teaching Assistant to become part of their classroom support team.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who wants a varied and rewarding role within education. You will be working directly with pupils and supporting teachers to ensure children are able to participate fully in school life.

The role would suit an experienced Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, graduate or someone with strong transferable experience who is looking to move into education.

Your Day-to-Day Role

No two days as a Teaching Assistant are exactly the same. You will help create a classroom environment where pupils feel supported, encouraged and able to learn.

Your responsibilities could include:

  • Supporting individual pupils who require additional assistance

  • Working with groups of pupils during classroom activities

  • Helping teachers deliver planned learning activities

  • Reinforcing key concepts and instructions

  • Supporting reading, writing, numeracy and other curriculum activities

  • Encouraging pupils to participate and remain engaged

  • Helping children develop their confidence and independence

  • Providing encouragement when pupils find learning challenging

  • Supporting positive behaviour and classroom expectations

  • Assisting pupils during transitions between activities

  • Helping prepare learning materials and classroom resources

  • Supporting pupils during break and lunchtime when required

  • Sharing relevant observations with teachers and other members of the support team

  • Contributing towards a welcoming and inclusive school environment

The Person We're Looking For

The most important qualities for this position are patience, consistency and a genuine interest in helping children succeed.

You may be a great fit for this position if you are:

  • Warm, approachable and friendly

  • Confident communicating with children and adults

  • Patient when working with pupils who need additional support

  • Reliable and committed to your role

  • Comfortable working as part of a team

  • Able to use initiative when appropriate

  • Organised and able to manage a busy school environment

  • Flexible in your approach

  • Positive and encouraging

  • Interested in developing a career within education

Previous experience working with children is desirable, but Teaching Personnel will consider candidates with transferable experience. This could include childcare, tutoring, mentoring, coaching, youth work, care work or volunteering with children and young people.

Supporting Individual Pupil Needs

Every pupil has different strengths, personalities and learning styles. You will therefore be expected to adapt your approach depending on the child and situation.

Some pupils may need additional help with their learning, communication, confidence, social development or behaviour.

Experience supporting SEND or pupils with additional needs would be advantageous, but it is not essential for the role.

A willingness to learn and develop your understanding of different learning needs is just as important.

What You Can Expect From Teaching Personnel

We understand that starting a new education role can be a big step, which is why you'll have support from your Teaching Personnel consultant throughout your placement.

You will receive:

  • £14.25 per hour

  • Full-time working opportunities

  • Long-term and ongoing placements

  • Access to local schools in Sturminster Newton and surrounding areas

  • A dedicated consultant

  • Regular support and communication
