Full-Time SEMH Teaching Assistant – Blackburn

Location: Blackburn
Hours: Full-Time, Monday to Friday

We are currently recruiting for an experienced and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive school in Blackburn. This is a rewarding opportunity to provide dedicated 1:1 support to a pupil with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) who is non-verbal and has high Special Educational Needs.

The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting the child's learning, communication, emotional wellbeing, and daily care within a structured and nurturing environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide consistent 1:1 support throughout the school day.
• Support a non-verbal child with ASD to access learning and engage in classroom activities.
• Deliver personal care with dignity, sensitivity, and professionalism.
• Implement behaviour support strategies and individual learning plans.
• Promote communication using appropriate strategies and resources.
• Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and wider multidisciplinary team to meet the child's individual needs.
• Maintain a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment.

Essential Requirements:

• Previous experience supporting children with SEMH, ASD, and complex Special Educational Needs.
• Experience working with non-verbal children.
• Confidence and willingness to provide personal care.
• A calm, patient, and resilient approach to supporting children with additional needs.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• A genuine passion for helping children achieve their full potential.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
