£60 - 72 per day

Job description

This vacancy has now expired. Please see similar roles below...

‘COVID-INTAKE’ YEAR 7 PUPILS need emotional well-being and Nurture support. Pupils who made big strides with social interactions and emotional responses before CV-19 return to a reclusive state of crippling anxiety and paranoia.

Schools are using Welsh Government funding for ACCELERATED LEARNING  and WELLBEING INTERVENTION HELP

I work in partnership with a client secondary school (CF10) who are due to put CATCH-UP funding towards pupils they think will could use emotional support. The school is a leading path-finder school so its innovative ALN therapies and emphasis on ensuring every child has a supportive learning environment in school, no matter ability, background, or learning needs. Although it is a mainstream secondary environment – it hosts an unusually high number of ALN pupils, Looked after children and a Specialist Resource Base the size of a primary school itself.

FUNDING IS BEING USED TO HELP IMPROVE THE MENTAL WELLBEING OF ‘OVERLOOKED’ PUPILS

  • The year 7 pupils who will be getting this funding lack positive or consistent adult role models at home so need one to one mentoring to talk about their feelings and rationalise their emotions before acting on them
  • The behaviour and inclusion manager of the school has identified the pupils who were already struggling with the transition into secondary school, but are now starting to undo the hard work they have done with social and life skills.
  • The pupils are often challenging in their behaviour and are often dismissive of new members of staff in the school- yet they have forged positive relationships with members of the ALN team this half term.
  • Positive relationships with adults are short lived as the pupils in most cases live between family members as their parents are either unable to care for them, or suffer with severe depression.
  • The ALN team know these are not kids behaving badly for no reason; causing disruption has become their only effective means of communication. As none of the pupils are identified as ‘High risk’ of abuse, but are being failed- the school have decided that it’s time these pupils knew that someone was there for them.

IF YOU THINK YOU CAN POSITIVELY INFLUENCE A CHILD’S EMOTIONS BY TALKING, LISTENING AND NURTURING THEIR TRUST- THEN THEY NEED YOU FOR THE RETURN BACK TO SCHOOL

  1. The job is Full Time school hours, Monday to Friday 8:30-15:00
  2. You do not need any qualifications in mental health or spport work, however they are desirable - Ultimately, personality and the right attirude is the most valuable asset for the school
  3. Starts immediately after half term – with most secondary year groups being off for an additional week, there are a lot of SEN staff left without their usual roles who will need to support in other areas
  4. The school is central to Cardiff and has a huge diverse pupil population CF10
  5. You must be able to commit to the role for the remainder of the full academic year (these pupils cannot cope with building trust just to have their well-being coach leave one day
  6. Should you get on well in the school, and if it is a role you would love to continue doing – we assist with getting you transitioned onto a permanent contract

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see teachingpersonnel.com/faqs for details.
