Job description

We are a dynamic and forward-thinking secondary school located in the heart of Rochdale. Our Design Technology Department is a hub of creativity and innovation, and we are looking for a dedicated Design Technology Technician to join our team and help us maintain high standards of practical education.

Role Overview: As a Design Technology Technician, you will play a crucial role in supporting the delivery of the Design Technology curriculum. Your primary responsibilities will include preparing materials and equipment for lessons, maintaining workshop tools, ensuring health and safety standards are met, and providing technical assistance to both staff and students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and set up equipment and materials for practical lessons in areas such as woodwork, metalwork, electronics, and graphics.
  • Maintain and repair tools and machinery, ensuring all equipment is in safe working order.
  • Assist teachers during practical lessons, offering technical support and guidance to students.
  • Manage stock levels of materials and order supplies as necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, conducting regular checks and risk assessments.
  • Support the development of students’ practical skills and foster a safe and productive workshop environment.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to the continuous improvement of the Design Technology Department.

Person Specification:

  • Previous experience as a technician or in a similar role, preferably within an educational setting.
  • Strong technical skills and knowledge of a range of materials and processes used in Design Technology.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • A proactive approach to health and safety, with the ability to conduct risk assessments and ensure a safe working environment.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • A passion for supporting young people and contributing to their educational development.

Qualifications:

  • A relevant qualification in Design Technology, Engineering, or a related field (desirable).

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
