Date posted : 05/10/18
£110 - £140 per day

Job description

This vacancy has now expired. Please see similar roles below...

Teaching Personnel are working closely with a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Bradford who are seeking to appoint a full time teacher this term.

The PRU is located in the Wilsden area (BD15) and delivers an alternative curriculum to young people aged 11-16 with complex Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs. Due to the level of pupil needs, the setting follows a primary model, with class teachers delivering lessons across the curriculum, with a key focus on Maths and English. You will have responsibility for a class of up to 12 students and will work closely with a designated team of Behaviour Support Workers to ensure maximum engagement.

The successful candidate will be required to implement the schools behaviour policy and hold high expectations of pupils at all times. You must also have a sound understanding of approaches and the management of Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs within an alternative provision setting.

Your main duties will include:

  • The delivery of a broad, balanced and creative curriculum, including PSHE and Citizenship, tailored to the needs of this group and to ensure that pupils receive their entitlement to Information, Advice and Guidance.
  • Effective liaison with schools and working collaboratively with designated staff around developing preventative programmes for pupils at risk of exclusion
  • Ensuring PRU pupils have access to a rich and varied range of out of school activities which reinforce positive impacts of the personal and social development they receive in school.
  • Providing opportunities for pupils to be involved in decision-making, both through formal participation structures and by embedding Pupil Voice in daily activities
  • Supporting colleagues to develop and implement young people's individual or personal learning plans, incorporating target setting and ensuring all pupils progress at expected rates and achieve relevant qualifications according to their level
  • Leading by example, engendering a spirit of high aspiration, creative challenge and determination to succeed throughout the PRU - amongst staff, pupils and their families
  • Establishing and maintaining positive relationships with staff, pupils, parents, carers and families; governors and members of the local community

Applications are welcomed from Fully Qualified and Newly Qualified Teachers from a Primary, Secondary or Further Education teaching background. Additional training in holistic behaviour de-escalation (e.g. Team Teach, MAPA) is also desired.
