Are you looking for a new challenge in a supportive envioronment?
The sensory support unit caters for pupils with speech, language and communication needs as well as hearing impairments with BSL being used as a predominant method of communication. The Teaching Assistant would be required to support pupils with hearing impairments within their lessons and on a 1:1 basis, Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant is desirable but not essential. The role would require you to support within lessons to make them accessible for the pupil which may involve differentiation or simplification of the work set by the teacher. A lot of the role will also be working as an interpreter, any previous experience as a communication support worker would also be ideal.
This sensory support unit do also require a number of Teaching Assistants to support within their hearing impairment units around Primary and Secondary schools across greater Manchester. Majority of sites require BSL trained staff, however a Teaching Assistant with an awareness of hearing impairments can be utilised at some of the sites.
This role is a long term supply role and will be likely to last until the end of the academic year.
Teaching Assistant Specification;
- BSL Level 2 or higher
- Good communication skills
- Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant is desirable but not essential
- DBS on the update service is desirable
