Join a high achieving Tameside based secondary school looking to strengthen their support staff team with the hire of a Behaviour Support Assistant. The position will be on a full-time basis until the summer term at least. The right candidate will be given the opportunity to extend the position into September.
The successful candidate will work to support students across KS 3 and 4 struggling with behavioural difficulties affecting their attainment and classroom behaviour management. Candidates will look to support students by promoting positive behaviour and being a positive and professional role model to all students, raising inclusion and self-esteem amongst students displaying challenging behaviour, as well as students with Social and Emotional Mental Health requirements. Behaviour Support Assistants will work alongside regular classroom teachers during lessons as well as collaborating with SEN coordinators and school senior leaders to plan 1-on-1 and small group intervention and pastoral support sessions. This is an ideal opportunity for a bright teaching assistant or confident graduate with experience working with secondary school children and a passion for supporting vulnerable young people.
Some of the responsibilities and highlights of this position include:
- Supporting students displaying challenging behaviour in classroom, 1-on-1 and small group scenarios
- Working with students with SEMH requirements to raise self-esteem, inclusion and attainment
- Supporting students from a residential care environment with behavioural difficulties
- Working with students from a youth work environment
- Working to be a positive and professional role model and ensuring students adhere to the expected behaviour policies
- Full-time position on an initial temporary basis with the option to be extended to a permanent contract in the new academic year
- Weekly pay of up to GBP350/ week
- Dedicated support staff team and school senior leadership that will ensure a smooth transition to life at your new school
We encourage applications from candidates with experience supporting secondary school students in a school environment or another capacity, including: Mentoring, tutoring, youth work, support work, sports coaching, SEN support. Candidates will also need to provide suitable employment references with no safeguarding concerns and hold an in date fully enhanced DBS certificate on the update service (or be eligible to apply for one).
This opportunities location in Tameside make it ideal for candidates local to Ashton-Under-Lyne, Staybridge, Denton and the surrounding areas. Applications are also encouraged from nearby Derbyshire and Stockport.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
