Job description

We are seeking an experienced and resilient Behaviour Mentor to join a dedicated secondary school in Heywood. This is a vital role for someone who is passionate about supporting young people, improving behaviour, and helping students re-engage positively with school life.

Working closely with Senior Leadership Team (SLT) members, you will play a key part in managing behaviour interventions, supervising the isolation room, and providing targeted support to students with challenging behaviour.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work alongside the SLT to implement behaviour strategies and interventions

  • Supervise the isolation room and support students during reflection periods

  • Build positive relationships with students who display challenging behaviour

  • Offer one-to-one or small group mentoring to encourage emotional regulation

  • Record and monitor behaviour incidents and progress

  • Act as a calm, consistent presence during high-pressure situations

  • Support teaching staff with behaviour management where needed

About You

  • Essential: Previous experience working with challenging behaviours

  • Strong communication and de-escalation skills

  • Calm, confident, and able to set firm boundaries

  • Empathetic yet assertive, with a passion for supporting young people

  • Ability to remain professional and composed at all times

  • Experience in a school or youth support environment is highly desirable
