Behaviour Buddy 1:1

Teaching Personnel are working with a Secondary School that is looking to recruit a Behaviour Buddy/Mentor for a 1:1 role in Cardiff. The school caters for pupils aged 11-19 and you will be working in an environment where pupils have Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs. You will be working on a 1:1 basis with a Year 8 Looked After Child (LAC) who requires specific support to aid with learning in the classroom and in the behaviour base.

As a 1:1 Behaviour Buddy, you will have the ability to build strong, trusting and stable relationships with young people, and be consistent in your approach to behaviour management. You maybe required to communicate with the schools leadership team in order to produce progress updates for your pupil, so you will have excellent interpersonal skills. You will be able to provide support both on an academic and pastoral basis; providing emotional support where appropriate. You may have a background in Counselling, Youth Work or Psychology, or have previous experience providing Behaviour Support for young people in an education, health or care setting.

The perfect candidate will have:

• Previous experience of meeting young people's Social Emotional and Mental Health Needs would be desirable however this role often relies on having a great attitude towards supporting individual and varying needs
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• The ability to de-escalate challenging behaviour and prevent pupils reaching crisis (Team Teach training can be provided by Teaching Personnel)
• A passion to make a positive difference in a young person's life
• Access to a vehicle is desirable
• Patience and reliability to provide consistency for a pupil with complex needs
• Sensitivity to the challenges relating to young people in care
